Boots Not Ready To Retire
posted (November 5, 2018)
And while August Jr has to now reach out to his opponents to mend fences, the process is the same in the city - if a little more complicated because of the multiple ministerial ego's that have to be placated.

First off, there's Boots Martinez, who called himself the King of Port - only to make it clear that he will select who is heir to the throne. But, his ministerial colleagues Patrick Faber and John Saldivar double teamed him to deny him that opportunity.

So now that the heir is Phillip Willoughby - who Martinez considers a pretender to his throne - will Boots consider stepping down a little early to make room for Willoughby? You probably know the answer to that one - but, here is it, just for the record:..

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Port Loyola Rep.
"I am the area representative then, I am the area representative yesterday, and I am the area representative now. Certain protocols remain the same. So, the goods and services as the good representative will remain for the people of Port through my stewardship."

Reporter
"Sir, will you consider resigning and having an bi-election?"

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Port Loyola Rep.
"For what? Why should I resign and have a bi-election? Not at all sir."

Reporter
"Have Mike Peyrefitte won, would you have considered it?"

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Port Loyola Rep.
"I said to you that we will cross that bridge when we reach there. Well, that bridge is too far to cross at this point in time. I am certain that I will live out by tenure as representative."

So how will Willoughby and Faber mend fences with Martinez? Willoughby now succeeds him as standard bearer - and Faber has to sit with him in Cabinet. Here's what they had to say about it:...

Reporter
"Anthony Boots Martinez, he's no fan or friend of yours and in fact all that ugliness about the king and all of that talk was really speaking to you to let you know that the regardless of who win, November 5th he still controls the goods and services that the government funnels through this division. Will you be able to work with him to help your people?"

Philip Willoughby, UDP - Std. Bearer - Port
"It is incumbent on all of us including the other candidates that we unite and form one force and come together to heal."

Reporter
"How will you and Mr. Martinez move forward together in mending your relationship?"

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Deputy Leader
"As I've said to you, I have nothing personal against the Minister Martinez, he is my colleague and I'd like to think he's my friend as well. We will continue to work together, these conventions force us sometimes to take opposing sides, when it is that there is a matter that is very dear to a person, like his constituency of Port Loyola, this is his kingdom as he put it for the last few years. So, it is something that he's very passionate about. We get into these differences but it is never to the extent that we will not be able to work together and continue to socialize together for the benefit of the people who we serve."

Reporter
"Explain to me will you hire Phillip Willoughby. Who will give Philip Willoughby a job?"

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Deputy Leader
"We are not there. We are definitely not there yet. So, we will have to try to work on something and I'm sure that something will happen but we are certainly not there yet and he and I have not discussed any such."

Reporter
"But you agree somebody has to give him a job?"

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Deputy Leader
"Well, he has to work but you know some politicians live and eat and they are there with the people every day."

There's still a little more material from this convention rich in political drama, and we'll have that for you tomorrow.
