Did PM Have A Horse In Port Race?
posted (November 6, 2018)
And while he wants to bring peace to the streets of Port, can Willoughby create peace in his own party. As is the case after every convention, there are hard and hurt feelings, and divisions between the power players. But, as we have reported, there may have been even more at stake in the Port. That's because some powerful people in the party had hopes that Mike Peyreffite could be elected as Standard Bearer and find his way from there to the leadership of the party. We asked big people in the party if the Prime Minister was one of those pushing for Peyreffite:..

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"What it means for the state of play in the executive of the UDP? Because we know that big people were behind Mike Peyrefitte or we've heard, to try to create channel for him to become ascend as leader."

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Deputy Leader
"I don't know. That's a theory on your part."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Boots Martinez said that. He wanted him to be leader."

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Deputy Leader
"That is him. That is one individual. I don't know that anybody else has said that. Everybody in the executive of the party and of course the wider party wants a 4th consecutive term for the UDP. That means that we have to put our best foot forward."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"It may have been the prime minister's wish that Mr. Peyrefitte win, because we can see the prime minister places great confidence in him as the attorney general. If that is the case and if the prime minister's wish has been denied by this victory, is that a weakening of the prime minister's position?"

Hon. Patrick Faber, UDP Deputy Leader
"I don't know how you can go there. The prime minister's confidence was most fore mostly shown just a while ago when he place me in charge of this entire country for an entire 5 weeks. You can get no better vote of confidence than that."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Perhaps the prime minister or the party leader have an active interest in seeing Mike Peyrefitte installed as the standard bearer for Port Loyola."

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Port Loyola Rep.
"No discussion was held by the prime minister and the party leader about who will actively put there."
