Who Will Get Wilo’s 16 Delegates?
posted (November 7, 2018)
Of course, it could cynically be argued that Faber might care more about the 16 delegates for Port Loyola than he does about the standard bearer. After all, those delegates are the ones who will vote for the UDP's new leader. Right now the race for that coveted post is between Faber and John Saldivar. And on Sunday night, they were both hugging the victor Phillip Willoughby. But, which of them will get the support of his delegates? That's what we asked Faber today:..

Jules Vasquez- Reporter
"You and Mr. Zaldivar very famously hugged up Mr. Willoughby. Will he now split the delegates from Port Loyola eight each to each of you all when you go to leaders' convention?"

Hon. Patrick Faber
"You see, you misunderstand our democracy again. Mr. Willoughby does not select the delegates nor does anyone for that matter following strictly the democratic process of our party. I am sure you know by now, as we have made clear our process that in January and February of next year we will have conventions to select those delegates democratically. And so, it is up to the people of the Port Loyola constituency as it will be up to people in any constituency for that matter to select for themselves who their delegates are that will accompany the Standard Bearer/Minister to the national convention to select the leader."

Jules Vasquez
"But you would expect that the delegates would support you."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Absolutely and I am sure they will do the right thing."

Jules Vasquez
"And Mr. Saldivar expects the same. Mr. Willoughby has an influence in it. Which way will he go?"

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Well, we will wait to see."

The selection of delegates next year is expected to be another fierce political contest.
