A 24 year old is lucky to be alive after a bullet grazed him to the neck last night in Belize City. It happened on Neal's Pen Road around 9:00 last night. Police told us more:

"Last night just after 9 PM, police visited the KHMH where they observed Damien Leslie, 24 year old Belizean with an apparent gunshot wound to the right side of his neck. The initial information that police has is that Mr. Leslie was on Neal's Penn Road talking to some female inside of a vehicle when they were approached by 2 male persons who were riding a motorcycle. The came from the direction of Central American boulevard, went up towards Neal Penn Road, the motorcycle stopped at a distance behind the vehicle and from there the passenger came off the motorcycle and fired 2 single shots at the direction of Mr. Leslie causing the injuries to him. He is presently admitted in a stable condition at the hospital. As a result of that, police were in the area when they received information of male person inside of a yard with a firearm. Police responded at a Racoon Street extension address where they observed a black in color 9mm pistol and a person beside of the firearm. That person was detained and the firearm, both of them were escorted to the Racoon Street police station pending investigation of that shooting."

"I understand how that firearm is known to be the one used in the shooting because there is surveillance video which shoes the shooter throwing away the gun."

"Well as I mentioned, I cannot tell you if that was the firearm that used for the shooting. Police responded based on information they received and they conducted a search on this yard and that is where the firearm was found and the person that was found inside the yard was the only person at the moment inside of the yard."

"So you can basically say that these are 2 separate incidents but we are not sure if they are related as yet?"

"Exactly."
One slug was recovered and it will be tested against the DAEWOO brand 9 millimeter pistol found on Raccoon street. As you heard Police found a young man with that gun - but he has not yet been charged. The young man's mother says her son is not the shooter, and she has invited police to view a video which shows that another man did the shooting.
