August Smiled During Arraignment For Son’s Murder
posted (November 9, 2018)
Last night, police charged Samuel August with the murder of his 5 year-old son, and his mother-in-law. That's after they had initially said that they were seriously considering manslaughter, due to his mental state. Well tonight, the 35 year old is at the Belize Central Prison after being taken to court this morning.

He was arraigned this morning before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford, on 2 counts of murder: one for the death of his youngest child, Samir August; and the other for Samir's grandmother and guardian, 53 year-old Louise Young. He was also read a separate charge of dangerous harm which allegedly committed against 13 year-old Britney Young.

It all stems from the rampage which played out in the pre-dawn hours of October 31st, when he drove the backhoe to his mother-in-law's home on Fabers Road, where he rammed into the house. His 3 sons were at home along with their grandmother, another elderly woman, and Britney Young. The authorities dug both Louise Young and Samir August out from under the debris, but they died from the massive impact.

Britney Young, tried to flee from a deranged August, who was still behind the wheels of the backhoe, and August chased her into a neighbor's yard, injuring the teenager.

And while that was the first incident, a few days later, he was involved in another. He escaped from police at the hospital, carjacked Tanisha Ross and sped off down the Philip Goldson Highway, where he rammed into a backhoe near near mile 3 and a half on the road.

For that, August was also arraigned on 1 count of robbery. There were many photographs of him trapped in the vehicle, trying to harm himself with a pair of scissors. But, he told the Senior Magistrate that he was not guilty. For the other 3 offenses, the court did not take any plea from him because he will be answering to those in a Supreme Court trial.

Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford remanded him to the Belize Central Prison, and he will be brought back to court on January 19th, 2019.
