Sports Council Capitulates Quickly To Battle of the Drums Demands
posted (November 13, 2018)
The alarm went out this morning that Punta Gorda's prize festivity, the Battle of the Drums might have to change venues, or districts at the last minute.

President of the Battle of the Drums Darius Avila sent out a thousand word press release this morning accusing the National Sports Council of giving it a raw deal on a high price to rent the PG Sporting Complex. Avila says the NSC was charging them $500 a day plus taking 10% of their door sales. Avila argued that was, quote, "highly prohibitive to a charitable organization that is seeking to raise funds to invest in programs, projects and activities that are beneficial to the community."

By this afternoon the National Garifuna Council had joined the chorus. Its relase said, it is, quote, "disheartened and disappointed about hearing of the injustice and inflexibility of the National Sports Council."

Well, quicker than you could say we don't need another battle, the Ministry of Sports and Culture wheel and came again. This evening, culture Minister Patrick Faber told us they had dropped the 10% cut of the sales, and the rental cost to a mere $450. At 6:00 this evening Darius Avila told us he is good with that and the Battle will go ahead as planned and as usual this weekend.
