“Rights” Activity Book For Kids
posted (November 13, 2018)
Express yourself with rights: that is the name of NCFC's first rights based activity book and CD package. It was launched today at the Bliss Center and launch coordinator Lindburgh Smith told us why this book is very important and still relevant today.

Lindburgh Smith - Former IEC Officer, NCFC
"We, as the group of Ambassadors decided well, since we don't have anything local. Why not produce something local for the first time that can teach rights using the Belizean contacts to... and that would be fun and so we sat at the table and we drafted this masterpiece today "Express yourself with rights" which has a multidimensional approach. It's a teacher guide, to teach rights, it's a parenting tool, it's a fun activity book and everything in this book, from page to page is rights aligned and rights based. So, there is nothing you would do that will not teach you rights and it's just fun and along with this book comes with a child rights melody CD which are all written by the ambassadors and we have 2, what we would want to say, the face of the children rights movement which is the, "know your rights" song and "the sweet Belizean child" song. We thought to put that back here because you can't go wrong with those 2 melodies. Well, it's very important to always keep abreast of the know your rights. Well, it might be a cliché to some. It is very important because every day on the news you are seeing children being abused, you are hearing about child labour. Sometimes, children don't have food to eat. For example, I think a part of the presentation, the reverent did mentioned children being kicked out of school because of not being able to pay their school fees. We are saying that, know your rights, know what you are entitled to because at the end of the day the government should be able to provide and while they might not be able to accommodate all the children at least they can accommodate the most needed to ensure that your rights, that you are entitled to, is always adhere to at all times."

The launch is a partnership between NCFC, UNICEF and CRC. A book will be given to each school. The plan is to do a launch in each district so the book is circulated countrywide.
