posted (November 15, 2018)

Mayor Wagner also discussed the council’s financial performance between April and September 2018 and compared it with the previous UDP council’s performance in that same period in 2017. Wagner says this PUP council has done a much better job in collecting taxes and various license fees.

Bernard Wagner - Mayor of Belize City
"Taxes under 2017 was 2.7 million collected, this is property taxes by the way, for us it was 2.8 million, improve by 4%. Isn't that great? Property taxes for the current year in 2017 1.2 million, for us 1.8 million, improvement 57%, that is awesome. We move on to trade licenses and the narrative continues. 2017 208 thousand collected by the previous administration by us 367 thousand. Current year trade license fee, theirs 143, us 280, improvement 96%, we're up in the 96 percent. The extension of liquor license, I try to understand this liquor license extension and then I said how it could improve by 52% from 124 thousand to 187, so I said maybe that was all under the collection and all the skulduggery that was occurring when you have these bars and clubbing and all these thing and people would get an extension and they would not pay, so they payment went to somebody pocket and now it's coming into us. You see it there, 187 thousand. Special liquor license meeting fee from 300 dollars, those license fee was probably free but we have improved up by a whopping 1341%."
