Two Killed Over Long Weekend
posted (November 20, 2018)
The Garifuna Settlement Day weekend was celebratory in Southern Belize, but, the criminals didn't take a break, and there were many incidents of lawlessness countrywide.

We start our extended newscast tonight with our story on the broad daylight murder which happened in Belmopan yesterday, on Garifuna Settlement Day. Just after midday, Belmopan police found a car parked in the Salvapan area of the Capital City. When they searched it, they found the body of 23 year-old Jermaine Sanker, a resident of Corozal, slumped over the vehicle's steering wheel on the driver's side. He had one gunshot to the left side of the face.

Now what was this Corozal resident doing in Belmopan - and why was he targeted for an execution.

Police said he had just walked out of a house when a shooter pounced on him:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On yesterday's date, shortly after midday, police were called to an area at #1 Panama Street in Belmopan City, in the Salvapan area. Upon arrival, a brown in color Dodge Neon Car was seen with a dark complexioned male person, who was seen motionless. Upon closer examination of the scene, the person was seen with a gunshot type injury, beside the left eye, which exited somewhere toward the back of his neck. His identity was learned to be Jermaine Sanker, 24 years-old of a Corozal address. Police have since interviewed one person, and are in the process of following several leads in relation to this investigation."

Reporter
"Is it believed that he was shot by somebody who was in the vehicle with him, or someone who came up to the vehicle?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"I believe that it was somebody who came up to the vehicle because the investigation is showing that he had just exited a house, and entered the vehicle when the incident occurred, and no one else was in the vehicle at the time of the incident."

Reporter
"Has police been able to determine a motive, because Sanker is not from Belmopan. So have police been able to determine what he was doing there?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"As I mentioned, we are following several leads in relation to the investigation."

Reporter
"Was he just in Belmopan for the day, or was he staying down there temporarily? What do you know about his living situation down there?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"We do not know. The investigation has shown that he was obviously there for a number of days, and the vehicle that he was found in was a rented vehicle."

Police information suggests that the killer was of clear complexion and wore a blue shirt. Two bullet slugs were retrieved from inside the car.
