But about 14 hours before the Belmopan murder of Jermaine Sanker on Garifuna Settlement Day, there was another gun killing in Belize City.
The victim in that incident was 20 year-old Eric Staine, a barber who lives on North Front Street. At around 10:30 p.m., city cops had to respond to shots being fired at the corner of the George Price Highway and Krooman Road. When they arrived, they found Staine on the ground with multiple gunshots to various parts of his body.
They rushed him to the KHMH as bleeding profusely and slipping in and out of consciousness, and about half hour later, he succumbed injuries while receiving emergency care.
Today, police shared a few details that they've been able to establish so far about the case:

"On the 18th of November, sometime around 10:39 p.m., CIB personnel visited the KHMH, where they encountered Eric Staine, a 20 year-old barber of a North Front Street address. He was suffering from several gunshot wounds to the body, and he succumbed at about 10:05 p.m."
"Police responded to shots being fired on the George Price Highway, at the corner of Krooman Road, and upon arriving there, police discovered Mr. Staine's body. He was transported to the KHMH, and he of course died of those injuries. We have reviewed cameras in the area, and we have some information. The investigation is ongoing."

"Sir, we are told that an SUV and a motorcycle by residents leaving the area after the shots were fired. Would you be able to confirm any of that at this time?"
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
"We are looking into that, yes."
Reporter
"Was Mr. Staine known to have any gang affiliation, or have you all been able to find any reason or motive at this time?"
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino.
"Well, there is no motive at this time. We are investigating certain information that we have, and the investigation is continuing at this time."
Witnesses saw a silver Honda CR-V racing from the scene after the shooting - and police are looking for that vehicle.
