And from the talk of airports, we turn back to other incidents of crime which happened over the weekend.

On Sunday night, a Belize City based Chinese businessman and his employee were held up outside his store by armed robbers. The businessman pulled his licensed weapon fired at their assailants, but he ended up injuring his employee inside.

It happened at around 9:00 on Sunday night at Tommy's wholesale on Central American Boulevard. The owner, Xi Lee, and his workman, Chester Humes were wrapping up business when 2 robbers grabbed hold of Humes.

Police shared more details about how attempted robbery turned into an accidental shooting:

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino - CIB
"On Sunday, sometime around 9:20 p.m., police responded to shots being fired at Tommy's Wholesale. This would be on Central American Boulevard. Upon arrival, police spoke to Xi Lee, 34 year-old businessman, of the said address. He had indicated that he had returned to his residence of the business, on Central American Boulevard, he and his work man, Mr. Chester Humes. They entered the yard. Mr. Humes went to the back of the yard, and Mr. Lee was opening the door to the residence. He noticed that Mr. Humes was taking long to return. He called out for him, and when he did, Mr. Humes returned being accosted by 2 masked individuals, one who was armed with a firearm. They approached Mr. Lee, and one of the assailants said to shoot. The gunman pulled the trigger, however, the gun snapped. Mr. Lee then pulled his firearm, and fired several shots. As a result, the 2 masked men made good their escape, however, Mr. Chester Humes was shot in the forearm. We believe that it was friendly fire from Mr. Lee's firearm, but police also recovered a .380 pistol in the same yard for the complainant. And it was loaded with 4 live rounds of ammunition."
