BDF Solider Killed In Motorbike Collision

There were 2 fatal traffic accidents in Southern Belize over the long weekend. The first one happened on Friday night at around 7:00 between miles 91 and 92 on the Southern Highway.

35 year-old BDF solder Ruben Sho was riding his motorcycle, heading into Punta Gorda Town when he slammed head-on into a red Ford Ranger pickup. Police told us more today:

"The first was reported in the Toledo District, which is on Friday, the 16th of November, sometime around 7 p.m. police was called to an area between miles 91 and 92 on the Southern Highway. Upon arrival, they saw a motorcycle and a red Ford Ranger pick-up, which was involved in a collision. The motorcycle was extensively damaged, and the motionless body of a male person, later identified as Reuben Shol, a 35-year-old Belize Defense Force soldier, was seen motionless on the road. Initial investigation reveal that the pick-up was being driven by one Estevan Caliz, 61 years, and he eastbound, out of Punta Gorda, when the motorcycle rider, traveling in the opposite veered into his lane, causing the collision. The body of Mr. Shol was also seen with the left foot severed from below the knee. The body was transported to the Punta Gorda Community Hospital, where it awaits a post-mortem examination, which is scheduled to done sometime later today. Blood and urine samples were taken from Mr. Caliz pending investigation."
