UB President Says Security Will Have To Step Up

As we told you earlier, a security guard at the University of Belize's West Landivar campus was held up by armed robbers. Now, this is very concerning for the University and today president Clement Sankat told us they have to heighten the security at this campus as well as others. According to Sankat's information, 4 robbers entered the campus from the back - eluding the security guard stationed at the entrance. The men then held up the other security guard who was in the office. According to the police, the men were looking for guns but only made off with the guards personal items, not before assaulting the guard. Here are President Sankat's comments.

Sankat says the all the campus' countrywide have 24/7 security. He also told us this is the second time that the West Landivar campus has been targeted. There is strong speculation that this robbery was an inside job.

Belize Team Gets A Goal, Needed More

In last week Thursday's news, we told you how Belize's National Football Team, the Jaguars, were preparing to take on the Puerto Rican National Team for the third match of the CONCACAF Nations League Tournament.

That game happened on Friday night at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, and it was a must-win for Belize.

The Jaguars managed to clutch a 1-nil victory with the only goal coming from Belize's Denmark Casey in the 31st minute of the match.

This victory positions Belize's for a chance to qualify for the Gold Cup next year. The teams that are currently in the top ten, play their third games, next week, and whoever loses will go home.

They have to win their final match against Guyana, with preferably a large margin. If the circumstances work out in Belize's favor, then the Jaguars will take one of the 10 spots needed to get to the Gold Cup.
