Cabinet Ministers Ask PM To Stay On Until 2020
posted (November 23, 2018)
And while there is now chatter in the party that the man PM calls a great friend, Mike Peyrefitte may somehow slide into place in Queen's Square - for the time being, that's just talk. Right now, there are other intrigues swirling in the UDP. Foremost among those is the talk of a meeting the Prime Minister held earlier this week with a number of ministers - reportedly a majority of Cabinet members who want the PM and Party Leader to stick around as long as possible - right up to the 2020 elections, if he can. That would spell bad news for Patrick Faber or John Saldivar - who are hoping for a leadership convention and a transition as early as next year.

We asked the PM what Wednesday's meeting was about - and he slyly said, it was business as usual:…

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"We have heard reports of intrigues this week that you're are hosting special meetings with certain representatives and that certain other representatives who may aspire for leader weren't there and that there is talk of a little cabals being formed. What is happening within the internal workings with the UDP as regard? I know you cannot lie, so you meet with the men."

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"I did meet with a number of ministers, but nothing to do with any cabal being formed. They wanted to discuss some party matters in advance of next Tuesday's cabinet and of course I absolutely accommodated them as I am oblige to do and that's about the size of it."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"So going forward, there aren't any..."

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"What was discussed and agreed? That the cabinet meeting next Tuesday will be in Belmopan."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"That's why all of them had to come see you. That makes perfect sense."
