posted (November 26, 2018)
A Guatemalan man was shot dead over the weekend. Yesterday afternoon, police found his body about 50 meters within Belize, near Suchitan, Melchor. The victim is 26 year old Jairo Alfaro. He had no identification cards on him but our information is that his common law wife identified him. Today at the press briefing, police said they don't have much background on Alfaro.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, NCIB
"Benque police was called to an area north of Benque Viejo Town along the Belize Guatemala border which would be somewhere in the area of the Xunantunich Mayan site which is across the Mopan river, where upon arrival the lifeless body of a Hispanic male was seen in some bushes. Upon closer examination of the body he was seen with one gunshot type injury to the back of the neck and one to the upper right chest. The scene was processed. No expended shells were found on the scene and neither was any blood found on the scene. The person was later identified as Jairo Alfaro, 26 year old Guatemalan of a Melchor address."

"Is he known to Guatemalan police? Have your counterparts said anything about him or is he known to the area involved in contraband?"

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, NCIB
"No not that we know about."
