8 Miles Couple Survives Shooting at their Home
posted (November 26, 2018)
So, while Cayo cops try to piece together that western border murder case, Belize City police are investigating the strange shooting of a middle-aged man and woman.

It happened at around 2 o'clock on Sunday morning at their 8 miles home. 48 year-old Vilma Robinson and 38 year-old Erick McLarly were asleep inside their home when a gunman sprayed their house with a barrage of bullets. Both Robinson and McLarly were injured to their legs, and they had to be rushed to the KHMH for emergency medical treatment.

At today's press briefing, police shared a few details about the shooting, and what they've been able to learn about it:

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino - CIB Investigator
"On the 25th of November, police received information that persons were being transported from the 8 miles community with gunshot wounds to the KHMH. Upon arrival, police observed Miss Vilma Robinson, a 48 year-old resident of 8 miles with a gunshot wound to the right leg, and Erick McLary, a 38 year-old resident of the same address with 2 gunshot wounds to the right leg and one to the left leg. From what police has gathered so far, both were sleeping at the residence when they they were awakened by 6 to 8 loud gunshots. Before they managed to take cover, they realized that they had received the injuries. Miss Robinson had indicated to police that she had had a previous misunderstanding with a gentleman, and police are seeking this person as a person of interest in regards to the shooting."

"So, is believed at this time to be the reason for the shooting, sir?"

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
"No, but however, it is a lead, and we are following it up."

Reporter
"It does sound strange that middle-aged couple comes under fire from a gunman in the middle of the night. Were any of the persons - are they believed to be the intended targets? Were they looking for someone else?"

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino
"Well, apparently, they are the intended target. The shots were fired at their residence, and like I said, we are following up that lead."

We are informed that Robinson has since been released from the KHMH, but McLarly is still recovering. We attempted to approach them for comment, but we were informed that they were not willing to grant any at this time.
