Progress for the PSU: Their Land to be Restored
posted (November 26, 2018)
And just as the Mount Carmel school teachers have started to iron out their salary issues, things are shaping up pretty well for the PSU and their hilltop property. As we told you last week, the PSU met with the Prime Minster and the PM assured them that they will get back their land. The PSU sent out a press release last week stating "The meeting with the PM was amicable and the PSU is pleased to announce that progress has been made." It continues by saying "an agreed position was tabled by the Prime Minister which proposes the acquisition and transfer of the property by the Government of Belize from Simplex Design LTD. Thereafter, the Government of Belize and the Public Service Union shall agree on a methodology for the legal transfer to the PSU." But the PSU isn't letting Mayor Khalid Belisle off so easily, the release ends by saying "the union intends to fully exercise its right in pursuing legal actions against mayor Belisle and the Belmopan City Council. The PSU believes it has suffered considerable financial loss and damage as a result of the sale of the property by the Belmopan City Council." We will keep following this story.
