Buh-Bye Murder Charge; Men Walk Free
posted (November 26, 2018)
Today two men walked free from a murder charge. 26 year old Jed Burgess and 23 year old Micah Tillett were acquitted of the shooting death of 21 year old Jamal Neal. This is after Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Williams upheld submissions from their attorneys. Richard "Dickie" Bradley, attorney for Burgess, and Senior Counsel Ellis Arnold, representing Tillett, argued that Senior Crown Counsel prosecutor Sheneiza Smith presented insufficient evidence of her case which she closed today. The Crown could not locate its main witness and in prior testimony, an eyewitness was unable to identify the men he said he saw on a motorcycle because the driver wore a helmet and his accomplice a peak cap. The police had lifted fingerprints from the motorcycle that was allegedly used in the murder but no attempts were made to match the fingerprints with those of Burgess and Tillett. It was enough for Justice Williams to acquit and release both men. The murder happened on September 13th. Jamal Neal was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle while walking on Banak Street.
