Today marks the start of a three-day conference of Helpage International's Latin American and Caribbean regional membership. It was held at the Ramada Princess Hotel. Belize has been recognized as a key influencer in the Inter-American Convention on Rights of Older Persons, forming the first framework for its development years ago. But it still has to take the final step in actually signing and ratifying the convention, joining Costa Rica and El Salvador. Helpage Belize hosted its partners to find the best route to doing that and according to regional coordinator Marcela Bustamante, it can be seen as an investment in keeping older persons around even longer. We also spoke to Helpage Belize about the country's progress.
