SIB Announce 2020 Census
posted (November 28, 2018)
The Institute is also preparing for next year's census. Trejo told us how detailed and extensive the 2020 census will be.

Diana Castillo-Trejo, Deputy Director General - SIB
"For the coming year we have a very full schedule. Our main focus is going to be on the preparations for census 2020. So this coming year we are going to be doing our mapping exercise. We will be mapping the entire country and this is going to help our interviewers out in the field to more easily locate households also to help us to do some more meaningful analysis, at smaller geographic levels when it comes to teh census data itself. Right now the census contains a vast amount of information and one of the new additions that we are putting in there is we want to do an estimate of poverty, a multidimensional poverty index out of the census. This is the only opportunity we have to measure poverty at the most detailed geographic levels. So this is one innovation that we are happy to be adding to the census for this time. In terms of that I think we just need to work with our data users and the public to know what information is there, because we collect a vast amount of information. We look at persons employment status, their educational attainment, health conditions, crime - we look at the types of household assets that household have, type of basic services that they have access to or don't have access to. The type of dwellings that they live in. It's very valuable information that we will be collecting."

The Institute is looking to hire 1,000 temporary staff to work on this census. So if you are interested contact the institute. The census begins next year May.
