And before we could get to all those police stories, the police held a short briefing about a special donation they got from their counterparts, The Miami-Dade police department. Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie told us about the 500 bullet proof vests they got.

Allen Whylie - Commissioner of Police
"We have been the beneficiaries of a very large donation of exactly 500 bulletproof vests for the Belize police department which was donated to us by the Miami Dade police department through Chief Perez as well as through the initiative of the association of Caribbean commissioners of police and in particular the secretariat manager, Ms. Manning. This donation it will be cataloged, it will be distributed to our operational officers as well as our first responders in all the precincts in Belize district as well as country wide to all the different police formations. This donation will definitely contribute to the safety and security of our officers here in Belize. It is significant, we are still in need of more, we are going to purchase some more but we'll continue as much as possible to ensure that our officers are equipped with these vests that they are able to go out and perform their duties without fear and to a high degree of professionalism."

Last year, the Miami – Dade police department donated 200 bullet proof vests to the Belize police department.
