It’s all about the Kids: Triple Ministry Collab. for New Tracking System
posted (November 30, 2018)
Last night we told you about the child labor detection workshop, well the Ministry's of Health, Human Development, Education along with UNICEF are working on a tracking system of their own, but it is to identify children who are not getting all the primary care services. The project partners met at the Biltmore to discuss the details of this system and we found out more.

Neulin Villanueva, Deputy Chief Education Officer
"This the 3rd of a series of workshops where the Ministry's of Health, Human Development and Education are looking into early childhood development and education and we are doing today is trying to develop an individual child tracking system and looking at services that would be universal for every child and so that we would be able to look at which children have or have not received those particular services and to have a response to ensure that all our children are having our developmental, educational and health support that they need to be strong and healthy individuals later on."

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"How will this child tracking system work?"

Neulin Villanueva
"Okay what will happen is for example we did a small pilot study where we got 150 children from the health database, the Belize Health Information System and those names and the information was shared with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Development and what we did was to see if we could find those children in our individual databases and what it take to actually share that type of information to be able to track child."

"So for example we are looking at every child having vaccinations that is an easy one, every child have access to a preschool center, every child or every parent or caregiver having access to early childhood education so those are the things we are identifying now and then the next steps will be to put in place the mechanisms and the funding to make sure we can do this for every child."

The team will draft a proposal and it will have to be approved by the CEO caucus.
