posted (December 4, 2018)
Those three transport officers we told you about who were caught with contraband remain on active duty tonight. Now, police and customs caught them red-handed with 14 cases of Modelo in a Transport Cruiser on Sunday afternoon near Guinea Grass. They settled with Customs and paid a fine greater than the value of the beers. But, after that gross violation of the public trust, they've just been able to carry on as normal in their job. And that's because public service regulations. The Acting Director Vallan Hyde says that though he would wish to, he cannot just take unilateral disciplinary action against these officers. He says they must go through the Public Service Commission since the men are established public officers.

7News has also learned that these officers had no business being all the way in Orange Walk.  They were assigned to be patrolling the Western Highway when they were caught in Guinea Grass.

We are told that - out of embarrassment - the Transport Department is trying to keep them off the frontline. The CEO is expected to make a case to the Public Service Commission for disciplinary measures to be taken.
