Stopping Spillover
posted (December 4, 2018)
And a significant trend police has to monitor is the spillover of crime in other districts. As a result of anti-crime operations in the city, we have been hearing more about robberies and aggravated burglaries in other areas like Belmopan. Williams says they are aware of this and will come up with a strategy to target crime countrywide - not just south side Belize City.

Chester Williams, Deputy Compol
"We have been doing a lot in Belize City particularly on the Southside to allay the crime problem that is attributed to the gang situation and so because of that we have seen an increase of criminal activity out district so now we have to also, through what we will do here today having looked at our figures, we will have to develop strategies to spring board us into 2019 and so the commander now will be able to ensure that they look at those criminals from Belize city who have the propensity to move to other parts of the country to commit robberies or burglaries and aggravated burglaries and put things in place to guard against them. I do believe this is needed for us to be able to ensure we develop strategies to police the entire country of Belize in a more effective and efficient manner."

"Like for example we need to now look at the north side, over the past 36 hours we have had 2 murders on the north side. That is of serious concern for us and we have to ensure we put things in place to avert those things from occurring."
