Ras Ruben Gets Off After All Is Said And Done
posted (December 5, 2018)
It was one of the biggest stories of 2017, when Cameron Kelvin Usher, better known as "Ras Ruben" and his son, Kelvin Usher were caught up in a commotion in Lucky Strike Village. Police say they found Ruben and son on a marijuana plantation with 121 mature plants.

Kelvin Usher, who was 17 years-old at the time, ran off into the bushes after the Gang Suppression Unit arrested his father for the plantation. And then he went missing for two days - after reports emerged that the GSU shot at him.

A massive manhunt and protests were launched for the sixth former and when he emerged, there was a joyous celebration at the Battlefield Park.

But, while all that noise has subsided, what happened to the allegation of criminal wrongdoing?

Well, Kelvin's dad, Cameron Usher, was acquitted today of the cultivation of cannabis charge that the GSU brought against him.

Usher stood trial in the courtroom of Magistrate Emerson Banner, where the GSU put forward evidence that they found him cutting down a tree stump in the marijuana field. In their evidence, the cops say that they arrived at the location, and they saw someone, who we now know was Usher's son, running from the field, but they did not pursue him. The cops also claimed that they received information that members of the George Street Gang were allegedly guarding the plantation with high-powered weapons.

The main evidence against Cameron Usher was a statement that police say that he made when he was detained on the field. According to the cops, Ras Ruben reportedly said, "Ah come fi free dem tings".

In Usher's defense, his attorney Richard "Dickie" Bradley pointed out that there was no clear connection between Usher and the field. The defense stressed that police did not provide any evidence that he was the one who actually cultivated the marijuana plants. Usher also testified, and said that he had gone to Lucky Strike to conduct business on a different land as a vendor of fruits and vegetables. Usher's vehicle was searched by the police and nothing found in it connected him with the field.

After considering all the evidence Magistrate Banner acquitted him of the charge, setting him free.
