Gian Ghandi was a man of legend in the public service, the consummate mandarin and confidence man, schooled in statecraft, political intrigue and legal drafting, he was the senior legal advisor to PUP, and UDP for three decades. Officially, he served in various capacities, from Crown Counsel to Solicitor General - and then, legal advisor.

And now, the Barrow Administration is honoring the very private Ghandi, who always stayed in the shadows. Yesterday, an official ceremony was held to inaugurate an a building named after him. The facility is now known as the Gian C. Ghandi Building, and it will serve as the headquarters for the International Financial Services Commission (IFSC). He was the first Director General of the IFSC.

The IFSC's mandate is to protect and enhancing the country's reputation as an offshore financial center, while providing the appropriate supervision and regulation of the international financial services.

At the ceremony for the Inauguration of the the Gian Ghandi Building, Prime Minister Dean Barrow; Financial Secretary Joe Waight, who now chairs the IFSC were the main speakers.
