Two Killers Plead Down To Manslaughter
posted (December 10, 2018)
Tonight, 25 year-old Clive Geban, and 21 year-old Roberto Rodriguez are at the Belize Central Prison awaiting sentencing, after they pleaded guilty to manslaughter. They were charged with murder for the January 2013 killing of 61 year-old Ervin Morales, which happened at his home in Maskall Village.

On January 19th, 2013, both Geban and Rodriguez went to Morales' house to rob him. When they didn't find him there, they hid under his bed and waited for him to come home. As soon as he entered, they attacked him with a machete and a knife. He suffered 19 separate wounds, including those to the back of the head, the left shoulder, the hand and both elbows. The senior citizen suffered from epilepsy, and so when he didn't show up for his midday meal the next day, someone went looking for him. He was later found inside the house, already dead, and he was wrapped up in a blanket.

Police say that both Geban and Rodriguez gave statements to investigators confessing to the crime, and in front of Justice Colin Williams today, they pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. The judge has deferred their sentencing hearing until December 18th, when they will be allow to make a plea for mitigation.

Geban was represented by attorney Kathleen Lewis, while Rodriguez was represented by attorney Leeroy Banner. Crown Counsel Janelle Thomas-Shorter represented the Crown.
