58 year old Michael Arnold's Chrysler minivan was found here in the Baeza Layout last night at 10:40. This shattered glass - presumably from the vehicle window - marks the spot where his van was parked.
He was reportedly in the passenger seat with two apparent gunshot wounds to the left side of his temple and one exit wound to the right side of the temple.
A third shot is believed to have shattered the window.
Now, this road - which leads to San Andres - is dark and deserted at night - and there are no easy answers as to what Arnold was doing out here. It's certainly nowhere to park and relax - and it's safe to conclude he did not stop at this spot of his own will. Residents say they saw the vehicle here from as early as 8:00 pm - almost three hours before police found it.
Arnold was very well known in Corozal and was one of the founders of the Corozal Free Zone decades ago. He was active and visible in the community and well known as a businessman.
But his murder under mysterious circumstances has residents asking many questions - questions which his family also has - and they declined comment today.
Police have two persons detained for questioning - but are not answering questions as to what the motive may have been. From what we have heard thus far, police are looking at a personal grievance as a possible motive. We'll keep following the story.
