Brackett Talking ‘Bout The ICJ
posted (December 11, 2018)
Students from St. Catherine's Academy had their own ICJ referendum education forum today. The school invited activist Geovanni Brackett and his team to talk about why Belize should not go to the ICJ. The students seemed quite engaged in the presentation.

Kalima Enriquez, Head of Humanities Dept. SCA
"What we are doing is that we are trying to present enough information about the ICJ whether the Guatemala dispute referendum to students and what we did is we presented an objective view last week so we invited members of the ICJ referendum unit and today we had a no argument and we are planning for a strong yes argument in the future, then on January 18th we are going to have student doing a debate about whether they should go to ICJ or not and we are going to have a mock election where we will try to model it exactly how the adults will be voting."

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"Do you have discussions in class, do you get feedback from them in terms of what they are understanding?"

Kalima Enriquez
"We have, in fact they have had many questions. In fact if you were to look outside, they are still lining up to ask the presenters questions. The same thing happened last week and they have been constantly asking us well what do you think miss, what's going on what will our future be like so they are very excited about the debate."

This is part of a series of lectures held at the school. As you heard, they will also invite presenters to talk about why Belize should go to the ICJ.

And while that was a session for students, tonight the UB and Social Sector Senators Lecture Series is set to continue at that same venue, the SCA multi purpose auditorium.
