Guatemalan President in Belize
posted (December 13, 2018)

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales in in Belize tonight - in advance of a SICA Presidential summit tomorrow.  Now, just the thought of his presence is sure to inflame many red-blooded Belizeans, after all his country is claiming at least half of Belize's territory.

But, tonight he is here as a guest of the state.  Belize currently holds the presidency of SICA - which is the Central American Integration System - and tomorrow Prime Minister Dean Barrow will hand over the rotating presidency to Morales.

7News was at the airport for Morales's first visit as President:

President Jimmy Morales's Presidential plane touched down at 3:15 PM. This is his first visit to Belize flying as the president  in this twin engine Beechcraft King Air 300.

A BDF Guard of Honour stood by to greet him. While officials form his Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stood by to welcome him.

This group included Ambassador Georges De La Rouche and Foreign Affairs CEO Pat Andrews Morales casually climbed out of the plane, and was greeted first by Tasha Caine, the Head of Protocol and Consular Unit,  and then by CEO Pat Andrews who exchanged cordialities.

After that he was escorted to his waiting vehicle - a bulletproof Toyota Fortuner, one of at least two brought in from Guatemala for the Presidential summit.

Morales eased in and was rushed away in a police motorcade. And taken to the Biltmore for meetings before tomorrow's summit.

Morales first official visit to Belize was much more low key.  It was three years ago on November 30, 2015, when he was President elect.
