GSU Pickup Ran Over Toddler, Child Critical
posted (December 14, 2018)
A 2 year old baby boy is fighting for his life after he was run over by a GSU truck last night. At around 8:00, Baby Tevin Cacho or "Tete" as he was affectionately called, was with his mom Shereema Moody and others on Iguana Street Extension. They were celebrating Moody's birthday. Moody left him in the care of a friend and went to buy at the nearby store. When she came back, she saw her baby crushed under the wheel. I found out more about this terrible accident.

This security video captures the moment of impact. it happened so quickly that it took about 15 seconds before residents realized that baby Tevin was crushed under the GSU truck.

The accident happened last night in front of Kim's Shop 2 on Iguana Street Extension. Shereema Moody, along with her sister and friend were hanging out by this park right across from the shop when Moody left baby Tevin in the care of her friend and nephew so she could buy a pack of chips. That is when the GSU truck pulled up.

Shereema Moody, Mother
"Whenever we go to the shop the kids ask to go to the park so my baby and my friend baby, we took them over to the park along with their big cousin and they were at the park but I just was over there and went over there but I wasn't even there for 2 minutes, not even two minutes I left my baby and they just come speeding down the street."

From this vantage point, you can see the GSU truck stop in the middle of the street and three officers emerge. Moody is seen here eating chips in front of the store. The officers then told the women to stop loitering and drinking in the area and that is when the driver of the truck moved forward and hit little Tevin. Moody's friend says she got distracted when the GSU pulled up and turned away from little Tevin. That is when he slipped away to go look for his mom.

Again, as seen in the footage, the mother has no idea that they knocked down her baby boy until she hears the commotion.

Shereema Moody, Mother
"When they said it is my baby, I walk around the vehicle and see the baby slippers, when I saw my baby slippers, I can't believe it is my baby and went under the vehicle and I try pull out my baby but I see his entire face tear off, I don't know what to do. I got frightened and that is how my sister went to ask the boy to help us and they started to lift up the GSU truck, none of the GSU, the driver that knock down my baby, he sit right down in the front seat, he no get up."

Apparently, the driver didn't even know he had run over the baby and he froze in shock when everyone gathered around the truck, peering under it and trying to get the baby out from underneath.

They finally get the baby out and raced him to the hospital. But it is not looking good for little Tevin.

Shereema Moody, Mother
"My baby critical in there, critical, critical."

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"What are the doctors saying now?"

Shereema Moody, Mother
"The doctors say he have 50/50 chance of living, they burst one of his eye socket so he can't see out of his left eye even if he lives, the two sides of his head are fractured, they said my baby brains was coming out on the scene so even if he lives, he will be a vegetable."

Now Moody is calling on the police department to take responsibility for what they did.

Shereema Moody, Mother
"All I want is justice for my baby, he is innocent and no one can say nothing about no mother neglect because everyone who knows Shereema Moody knows I never go anywhere without my baby them."

"Commissioner, head of police, anybody, I just want help with my baby because you all did wrong and they GSU need to stop."

But the pain of losing a child will never end.

Shereema Moody, Mother
"All my baby wanted for Christmas was his bicycle, he ask me for his bike, every day he ask, you will buy my bike for Christmas ? And tell him yes baby your bike is already here and now my baby can't even ride right now, my baby can't even ride his bike."

…and it's a ride little Tevin may never be able to enjoy.

Now the GSU did take responsibility, saying that it was a genuine accident and they feel remorse for what happened. The driver PC Marvin Mckoy did not see the baby run in front of the truck. He has given a statement and has been served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution. As it relates to the report of loitering and drinking, Moody says she and her friends were NOT drinking, they were just hanging out eating chips and dip. Also of note is that when the GSU was rushing the baby to the hospital, the truck broke down so they needed to transfer the child to a private vehicle to speed him to the emergency room.

Tonight, Tevin remains in a critical condition and the family wants to fly him out the country for treatment not available in Belize. The families are asking the public's assistance. If you want to help, you can call his father at telephone 6307798.
