We turn now to this morning's murder of 41 year-old Marcos Ack, a farmer from Red Bank Village in the southern edge of the Stann Creek District.
Police say that at around 8 a.m., he was on his way to Mango Creek Village to sell his vegetables, when he stopped to offer a ride to a man he knew from Dangriga. Unfortunately, his good deed was repaid with a robbery attempt, when this hitch hiker pulled a knife on him and tried to hold him up.
In the process, this hitch hiker stabbed Ack to the right side of the chest, and that caused them to run off the road. The assailant tried to escape, but police were in the area and quickly apprehended him. Assistant Police Commissioner Myvette shared more on the case this morning:

"This morning, sometime around 9a.m., Independence police were called to the entrance of Independence Village where they observed a Hispanic male inside a white Toyota pickup that had run off the main road. Initial investigation revealed that Marcus Ack was travelling en route to Independence Village when somewhere around Red Bank he stopped and picked up a passenger and during his journey to Independence the passenger demanded money and as a result inflicted a single stab wound to the right side of his chest, after which he alighted the vehicle and ran towards the bushes but was quickly caught by police officers who were in the area. The knife that is believed to have been used was found inside the vehicle with blood stains. That person is now in custody pending this investigation."

"Is there any indication as to whether or not the victim knew this man who attacked him prior to the date of the incident?"

"No he did not indicate because the police did get a chance to speak to him briefly."
Ack passed away this morning at the Southern Regional Hospital, while undergoing emergency surgery.
Sources tell us that this man who was apprehended will most-likely be charged very soon with murder.
