Agric Exports Show Improvement in November
posted (December 19, 2018)
The agricultural sector has witnessed a downturn in the last couple of years due to crop diseases and depressed sugar prices in the European market. According to the Statistical Institute of Belize, exports in the agricultural sector saw a modest improvement in November

$2.1 million dollars in sugar was exported, compared to almost none in November of last year. Bananas also showed a notable increase from $5 million in November 2017 to $6.1 million in November 2018. Red kidney beans also showed notable increase, while citrus had a slight decrease from $3.2 million in November 2017 to $3 million in November 2018.

Overall Belize experienced an increase in exports of 26.2%.

Taking a look at the first 11 months of the year, however, shows a gradual decline of export earnings, particularly for sugar, citrus, and bananas.
