posted (December 20, 2018)
Anisha Young, Iverson Neal, Benson Butler, Greg Dillon, Milo Paz, Ruby Portillo and her baby, Gerardo Vasquez. These are just a few of the people that have gone missing over the past couple months. Just gone without a trace and the cases continue to mount. Today at the bi-weekly press conference the police addressed this concerning increase in missing person reports. ASP Alejandro Cowo advised the public to report to the police as soon as they realize their loved one is missing.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, CIB - Eastern Division
"It is of paramount importance for the police that whenever there is a missing person, where any loved one is missing, that you do not need to wait for any time to report the matter to the police. There is no immediate time or specific time for you to report a missing person. That can be done five, ten minutes after you have not seen the person, and we encourage that the best time for you to report is as soon as you are aware of it and do not wait. On or two or three days to see if the person will come back."

"We have had several missing persons where the families of the missing have been coming to the station have been coming to the station three, four days after reporting the person causing a lot of delay for us to actually start to look to track the person where he was seen last and other things. So, we advise the public that if you know that your family is missing, do not hesitate or waste time to chase after… to come report. You come there and then we do not have a specific time."

"It has raised an alarm for us since just for last week we had several persons that have been missing. However, I know that two of them have returned home safely, but we still have a number of them that are still missing. We are working with the families to see how best we can assist them; we are trying to locate their loved ones. I know it is very stressful for the family since they have not heard of their loved one for… some of them for almost a week. And we know that any lead, any small information or any information that is being gathered, we are working on it and we also ask the public for their assistance, that if they hear anything, if you want to share you can always call 911 and share the information with the police, and we can follow it up. We know that there are persons out there, they might have heard something or may have seen something that can assist us. Even if it's small information, it might take us a very long way."

As it relates to minors or teens going missing, police advises parents to get familiar with their child's friends and usual hang out spots so if they go missing, they can know where to start asking questions and looking.
