Broad Daylight Gang Shooting in OW

We turn now to a suspected gang shooting in Orange Walk, which happened yesterday evening on the Belize/Corozal Road, near a barber shop. 22 year-old David Diaz, a suspected affiliate of one of the gangs in Orange Walk, was shot to to the left leg by a man on a motorbike

Police told us more:

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City
"Just after 5:35PM Orange Walk police visited the Northern Regional Hospital where they observed a male person by the name of David Dennis Diaz, 22 years old suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the left side of his knee. The information is that Mr. David was standing at the corner of Staines Alley and Belize Corozal Road where he was approached by a male person and upon that person approaching him at about 10 feet, the male person pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at him, causing the above mentioned injuries. He is still admitted at the hospital in a stable condition. I was informed that he will be discharged sometime this evening. We also learned that he knows who is his attacked and he has already informed the police. Police is seeking one male persons in regards to this shooting."

"Any possible motive for this particular shooting?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We understand it is this gang rivalry that is occurring in Orange Walk between the two different gangs that exist in Orange Walk."

"We are told the suspect is connected to a previous shooting. Is that in deed?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes."

As you heard, Police have a known suspect who is allegedly involved in the drug trade. The gangs involved in these shootings are extensions of Belize City gangs by the same names.
