Retaliation By Attempted Arson?
posted (December 27, 2018)

And - even though a man was dead - it didn’t end there.  Later last night, someone poured gasoline on a house in that same neighborhood - with the intention to burn it down.

The Fire Department was quick to respond and was able to put out the fire.  They confirmed it was attempted arson:

Orin Smith - Station Officer, National Fire Service
"On December 26 2017, 2018, sorry, at 6:25 pm, the Belize City branch of the National Fire Service responded to reports from the police of a structural fire on Tibruce Street, Lake Independence area Belize City. On arrival on scene, there were no visible flames or smoke from the structure. Found was a 30 by 50 wooden structure. Preliminary investigations revealed there were three separate in-connected points of origin in the interior of the structure and at least one on the exterior of the structure. The fire fortunately was put out by efforts of police patrol within the area. The fire is classified as incendiary in nature."

Police have increased their presence in this very volatile area - where retaliation is a constant threat.  Police also did a mediation session with 2 of the victim’s family members.  No suspects have been detained.
