Christmas Morning Gang Shooting In OW
posted (December 27, 2018)

And while that murder and attempted arson is the product of a long standing rivalry - that's also what led to a Christmas morning shooting in Orange Walk Town which left 2 men injured. Police have confirmed that it is a product of the ongoing rivalry between 2 gang groups in that municipality that's been playing out for months now.

As we told you, these gangs in the north are extensions of the gangs from Belize with the same name. The victims from this latest shooting are 21 year-old Senon Pablo Reyes, aka "Pebbles", and 28 year-old Llamont Wade, 2 men well known to police.

On Tuesday morning, they were about to leave Reyes' house on Muffles Street when a gunman roared past on a motorbike and opened fired on them both.

Police told us more:

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"On the 25th of December, Tuesday, just after 7:30 in the morning, Orange Walk Police visited the Northern Regional Hospital, where, upon arrival, they observed 2 male persons, 1 by the name of Lamont Wade, and the other by the name of Pablo Xenon Reyes. Both of them had what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the body. What police gathered so far is that Mr. Reyes and Mr. Wade were socializing at Mr. Reyes' residence on Muffles Street, and whilst they were coming out of the residence and approaching the gate, a male person of Hispanic descent approached them and fired several shots in their direction, causing the above mentioned injuries to them. Lamont Wade suffered an injury to the buttocks, and the next one, a gunshot injury to his right foot. Both were both were admitted, however, they discharged themselves that same afternoon from the hospital."

"These are known gang affiliates in Orange Walkâ€Â¦"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"They are known to police, and again, as I mentioned in the last briefing, it has to do with the the same shooting that happened previously in Orange Walk Town, among the same rival groups."

Reporter
"Sir, I think a few weeks ago, Samuel Castro was killed on that same street, I believe, in front of the same Mr. Reyes' residence."

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Yes."

Reporter
"Is it believed that Mr. Castro's murder was because of Mr. Reyes; they wanted to kill Xenon?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well, it is a dispute that has been happening from [since] the death of Triminio, or even from before. So, that is the angle that we are looking at. I know that it is that feud among those 2 gangs in Orange Walk."

Reporter
"So, it's safe to say that this was retaliation for the shooting prior, to Mr. Diaz's shooting?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Well, we suspect it is."

Police say that they have an active presence on Muffles street, because of this heated rivalry, and because there has been a dangerous spike in gang-related violence in the neighborhood. They're hoping to contain the next wave of retaliation.

The cops also say that the victims involved aren't making it easy for them to bring the perpetrator to justice. One of them has given a statement, while the other has refused to do so.
