Looking for A Fight?: MOE Endorses School Management’s Pay Cut
posted (December 28, 2018)
A week ago, we told you how the managements of schools countrywide were considering docking the pay of the teachers who attended the Belmopan protest against the Ministry of Education on November 7th. The Teachers Union called them the grinches who stole Christmas, but, now, the Ministry of Education has publicly declared its support for those school managers.

A press release from the Ministry does not explicitly say this, but their statement is titled, "MoE Supports Managements For Upholding the Rules Governing Teacher Absences".

The Ministry release says, quote, "The Education Rules…provides managements with the authority to disallow a claim for payment for any period of unauthorized absence." End quote.

The release adds, quote, "Managements are required to abide by and to enforce the rules…If a teacher is absent without authorization or leave, a management is expected to treat every such instance in accordance with the education rules. This applies to absences on November 7th and any other school day..." End quote.
