Guyana Eager To Go To ICJ, Despite Claim on 60% of Its Territory
posted (December 28, 2018)
And while few Belizeans are as confident as the PM, the Government of Guyana is even more so. Venezuela is claiming 60% of Guyana - but the Guyanese are the ones who are pushing to go to the ICJ. That's because they are so confident the court will trash Venezuela's claim.

One month ago in the Hague, we discussed this with Belize's Ambassador to the EU. We asked him to contrast Guyana's eagerness to go to the court against Belize's reluctance:..

H.E. Dylan Vernon, Belize Ambasador to EU
"Guyana is so absolutely confident of its legal case, of its legal arguments that Venezuela is wrong, that it is willing to say, 'I will go to the ICJ, even if Venezuela doesn't want to go and get to ruling in our favor'. And they have done it through the United Nations Ruling. At the end of the day, the 'yes' vote proponents in Belize saying something similar, similar. Our position on this is so legally strong we want to go to the ICJ to get this result. So, there is similarity there with the Guyana case."
