New Year, New Babies, New Hope
posted (January 2, 2019)
Tonight's newscast has been dominated by news of killing and violence on the first day of 2019, but from all that death, we turn to now to the start of new life for the new year.

This morning, the KHMH invited the press to meet the babies who were born on New Years Day.

We stopped and spoke with Clarissa Williams, who gave birth to her her daughter, Baby Jayelle. Her daughter, who is her very first child, was born at 12:51 a.m. on New Years Day:

Clarissa Williams - Mother
"I didn't even plan to be in the hospital on December 31st. My expected due date is the 12th of January, so I expected that at least the 10th, the 11th, the 12th. It was like a total shock that I ended up here on December 31st."

"So, like in the evening, I walked to the store normal, and while I was walking, I just felt like I peed myself. I said I can't just pee myself while walking home. That would be like so weird."

"This was my water bag bursting right now, and I didn't know because this is my first baby. I ended up here like at around 8 o'clock, and it was like as I reached here, the pain started. And it was like as I reached here, the baby said, I want to come out. The pain started, the nurses checked me over and over, and told me that I am not ready. My mom came with me, and I said mom, how will they say I am not ready, and I'm in so much pain. I couldn't take this pain. I was literally was bawling around this hospital that night."

"The nurse say, you will have the New Years baby. By the time this clock strikes 12, you will have 10 centimeters, and just like that it happened. It was a hard delivery, but I am so thankful that I have my baby girl with me."

"Some of the companies have, in celebration of your New Years Day baby, decided to donate certain items to you."

"I'm very thankful for whatever they're about to give me. So far, I've seen that Jayelle is a very very blessed baby."

Angela Hung - Representative, Brodies
"Basically, our basket is all about Johnson and Johnson's baby products like shampoos, lotions, soaps and so on. It's for the babies to have a good year, a year filled with love, joy and happiness."

Aisha Trapp - Marketing Manager, San Cas Group
"The baby that was born for the New Year in each of the Districts, and we included San Pedro and Belmopan, they received a package from us, which includes Huggies diapers, wipes, Ovaltine, which is good for breast feeding. We support the KHMH strategy in keeping breast feeding first. So we give the mom Ovaltine. We don't include any infant formula or cereal."

Hugo Moguel - President, Rotary Club Sunrise
"You could plan all you want when you have a baby and the time is there, there is always expenses that you did not expect. So, our club decided to assist the first 3 mothers of the first 3 babies for the year with a cash donation to help them with their expenses at this time."

Alex Gordon - Brand Assistant, Grace Kennedy
"We don't carry a lot of baby products, but we're looking into the nutrition of the mother. So, put together a package that comes some of the Grace luncheon meat, Grace Vienna sausage, and other items to work on the nutrition of the mother."

"Trying to help the mother get back on her feet after the pregnancy."

Alex Gordon
"Yes, because you know, breastfeeding, it takes a lot from the mother."
