Ruben Cassasola has been charged for killing his ex-common law wife, Anita Pineda on New Year's night. He was arraigned at the San Ignacio Magistrate's court today and remanded to prison until March 5th 2019. 

As we told you, on New Years night, Pineda got a call from her friend who is also Cassasola's sister in law. Pineda went to her friend's Kontiki area house and that is when Cassasola came up from behind the house and stabbed her. She died on the spot right in front of her mother. Yesterday, when we went out west we also spoke to Pineda's friend of 15 years, Usias Vitzil. Unlike her family who knew and witnessed the abuse, Vitzil says he had no idea what she was going through.

"I know her because of his father and mother because they are pastors. Her parents are pastors so I know her for a long time. I will see her in school everytime, so from then we know her. She always take her kids to school, so we also take out kids to school too we know her from there too but I told you I know her for many years."

"So where or around what time did you found out about the murder?"

"Well I was in my house, I just saw in the news, what I saw I never imagined, I never believe that because we know her."

"And you yourself as her friend, she never confided in you to say that she was in an abusive relation or her husband was abusing her?"

Usias Vitzil
"No, never."

"So this certainly came as a shock to you?"

Usias Vitzil
"Yes, yes."

Pineda leaves behind 3 young children. Police recovered the murder weapon, and the cycle that Cassasola escaped on.
