Inspector Fitzroy Says Brother Garry Targetted as Part of Senior Cop Vendetta
posted (January 7, 2019)
On Friday we told you about Garry Yearwood. He's the 39 year old BTL Network Designer who is in jail tonight - remanded after allegedly pulling his licensed weapon on his ex.

The allegation is that he pulled the gun on her after she followed him from Belize City to Los Lagos. He was with a new female friend, and it seems the sight of them together infuriated her. So she followed him to his home where she slapped him, and claims he then pulled his weapon and threatened her. He was remanded for aggravated assault and it will be a week before this 20 year veteran of BTL will have a chance to get bail.

Today, his brother Police Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood came out and made an extraordinary statement: he said it's actually all a vendetta against him:..

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood, Brother Garry Remanded
"I explained to him from his detention on Thursday that you're related to me. The hierarchy of the police department threatened to punish me some time ago last year and because you're my brother you will have to suffer a little, because we know that the vendetta is out against me and not him."

Yearwood gave his account of the sequence of events on New Year's night. He said he got a call from his brother requesting police to come to his home:...

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood, Brother Garry Remanded
"He was at home, his baby mother in the company of her mother and her brothers, elements from the Supal Street arrived at his home and they assaulted him. He was hit in the back of his head and he is saying that he knows, because his baby mother know that he has a licensed firearm, he doesn't want her to make a false report against him. So he called for the police, they didn't answer and I called them. My brother reacted responsibly. He did not assault her. He didn't even drew his weapon. I have a witness that I cannot named, because we will use her in the trial, that said my brother did not even reach for his firearm."

"When I arrived there, he told me that they left. I told him bro go to the station and make a report. He said I will, but he was shaken up. To my surprised he call me on Thursday and told me that he was called by Ladyville police. He gave me the WPC name. Her name is on the charge sheet. I won't mentioned it, because I intend to sue the department for unlawful detention and unlawful imprisonment. But he said that she call me and told him to come to the station to give a report. In all natural fact, I believe my brother should have made his report, because he was assaulted on his private property, his home, owned by him. So now my brother went to the station. When he got there to give his statement as they ask him to come in and do, he was grabbed by Sergeant Leon Hewlett, who told him that he has been instructed by the higher ups to arrest and charged him."

"Lo and behold when I went there on Friday morning to check on him, I was told by a corporal, I won't call his name, because he was very nice to me, that my brother had been charged overnight and they will proceed with him to Queen Street. Now Jules, I am proceeding to work as the executive duty officer at Queen Street police station. When I got there, the inspector on duty received my brother, booked him, put him in the cell. I have no problem with that. When the personnel from prosecution came for him I handed over my brother to them for him to go and be arraigned. Now Jules, it's a difficult task knowing that my brother is innocent. All I wanted them to do was to do a proper investigation and if my brother was at fault, then he should be charged. I made several calls to ask them to just investigate properly, before you charged him, because you will tarnish an innocent man reputation. My calls fell on deaf ears and my brother was charged. I am proud of my brother because I am certain that he did not draw his weapon. Instead he draw for his cellphone and call the police. They did not respond. They failed him and so he call me, I call them. They failed me also, because they have not shown up to his house up to this day. Not even to investigate. I feel like it's my fault, because we know the threats that were made against me by the hierarchy."

Yearwood said Police never showed up at the home that night - despite his calls directly to the station. He said he also reached out to the officer commanding for the Rural area - who he says did not respond to his calls or messages.

Now, in a striking coincidence, our archives show that it was 17 years ago on this day, January 7th, 2002 that the then Corporal Fitzroy Yearwood and his brothers, Keith and the very same Gary were charged for assault of Chester Williams, aggravated assault of Chester Williams among other charges. At the time, it was then ASP Edward Broaster in charge of the case. Yearwood said the charges were trumped up, and indeed they never held up in court.
