posted (January 7, 2019)
A Maskall family has to start from scratch after their home was burnt down yesterday morning after 10:00. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The family can't say for sure what caused the fire but they believe it was an electrical problem. Courtney Weatherburne has more

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
There was nothing much that could be done to save this two story Maskall home from the Sunday morning blaze. The fire started in the upper flat while the family was having breakfast downstairs.

Marilyn Dominguez, Home owner
"I sat downstairs by the window and I had my next daughter boiling an egg for me because I told her I want to eat a boiled egg mashed with butter and mayonnaise and so she is getting that ready."

"I hear like thing burst up in the house like pop shot and I say what is this, yes because it is downstairs and upstairs, we usually come from upstairs in the morning and then it is until the night that we go back upstairs and ten when my bigger daughter went upstairs to see what was happening up there she could not go in, she had to come down because of the fire and smoke."

They lost everything, except for their washing machine. But Dominguez is just grateful she and her family escaped unharmed.

"You guys could not have saved anything else?"

Marilyn Dominguez, Home owner
"Nothing, nothing that it is right there. It could have been worse that someone burn up in the house and that would have been a bigger problem."

But the family has to solve the problem they are by rebuilding. The family sells coconut oil and fortunately the hut where they make it was spared so their business can sustain them until they can get back on their feet.

Marilyn Dominguez, Home owner
"I have a house I will stay in for a little while but my daughter say they have to try to build somewhere because we have to move on with our lives."

If you would like to assist Dominguez and her family you can call 600-3549. The family says they lost about $35,000 in valuables.
