Peace Movement Says FM Forum A “Poppy Show”
posted (January 10, 2019)

And while Courtenay called it a cheap circus, today the Belize Peace Movement sent out a press release, calling the event a “poppy showâ€￾.

Their statement says, quote, â€œFive Foreign Ministers signed a Declaration at the Prime Minister’s Press Conference Wednesday… So What? The purpose of this poppy-show event was another desperate attempt to influence Belizeans to vote yes to the ICJ. With only 92 days left to the referendum date.. and with more Belizeans joining the No vote, Wednesday’s soap opera is the latest in the recent string of desperate attempts by government after ten years of failure to conduct a proper and impartial public education efforts on the Guatemalan issue.â€￾ End quote.

The Peace Movement then goes on to accuse these 5 former foreign ministers of signing agreements which were against the best interests of Belize in its push to resist Guatemala’s territorial claim.

Their statement ends, quote, â€œThe BPM asks, how dare these five quislings show their faces after years of arrogance and disrespect to Belizeans whom they have deliberately misinformed… and kept in the dark regarding the Guatemalan claim to Belize?â€￾

They say that they intend to hold a press conference next week. Later on in the news, we’ll have Assad Shoman’s response to the Belize Peace Movement’s Patrick Rogers. Rogers has said that Government officials of the past and the present have lured Belizeans into a false sense of security about strength of Belize’s case. You’ll hear Shoman’s response to that.
