The “Drug Hunter’s” Crusade
posted (January 10, 2019)

Last night, we showed you the comments from Police Commissioner Chester Williams and the Police Minister of State, Elodio Aragon Jr., discussing the allegations from self proclaimed "drug hunter" Edward Martinez.

2 nights ago, Martinez came forward as a fearless whistleblower claiming that he has evidence that high ranking politicians and police officers are playing accomplice to the drug cartels, and aiding them to illegally land drug planes on Belizean soil.

Since then, there have been discussions in the public, and depending on who you speak to, Martinez either has no credibility, mostly because of his past, and the fact that he has yet to produce any of this evidence; or, on the other hand, there are others who suspect that his claims might just be crazy enough to be true.

But, there are many questioning what his end game is. If you believe Martinez, then, it means that he is placing his life, and the lives of his loved-ones in grave danger by coming forward with this information. And if you don't, then it means that  you may suspect that Martinez is up to some serious mischief.

On Tuesday, we tried to glean his motives from him for this crusade, and here's how he answered the question as to why he's willfully painting a target on his back:

Edward Martinez - Whistleblower
"Many will ask, well how do you know?' Many will say, 'Well, he had to be involved. He must not have gotten his share you know how social media goes. This has nothing to do with shares, bad feelings or a crossed deal. This is about what is right. I have a son; I have children. I have many children, and at the end of the day, the crimes in the City are a reflection of the crimes up on top."

Reporter
"Are you concerned that the general populace, or persons within the public may not take your claims seriously, or that person s may attempt to discredit you?"

Edward Martinez
"I have no problem with anybody trying to discredit me. Let me tell you why, from my mentality. We all have skeletons in our closet. As far as the discredit, That's the purpose of my Facebook page. If you want to say that it's not like that, go to the previous history, and see if that it is accurate. Social media is something that everybody browse. You post something; they share it. You post something that isn't true, surprisingly, you get less reaction than if you post something that it is a lie."

Reporter
"It's hard to simply digest the names of the persons you've called out, without actual proof, so why not provide some today?"

Edward Martinez
"I'll tell you why not provide some today. Our system is based on news cancel news. I want to give them a fair chance to respond to my allegations, and then I will return with what I have. Because at the end of the day, I am not a bully. I am not here to bully anybody into nothing. The man accuse you, wait for the response. I am old school, you know. Like I said, after the response, I am inviting anybody from the Ministry or from the police department to sit in the next press conference. I prefer throw stones at somebody direct."

He claims that he will come back in 2 weeks with the evidence to back these claims up.

You'll also remember those death threats that Martinez started receiving via text message hours after his press conference on Tuesday. We understand that the owner of that phone number has gone to her phone company to query about how her number could have been used to send these messages - since she has no knowledge of such messages being sent.  So, to be clear, the owner of that number is asserting that she did not send those text messages to Martinez.  Our Daniel Ortiz witnessed those text messages on Martinez's phone shortly after they were received.
