And there's also news of another accident - this one wasn't fatal, but….
A Cotton Tree man is on life support tonight after he was flung from his motorcycle. 49 year old Ezekiel Ortega was rear-ended in a hit and run. It happened on Friday night around 9:30 on the Western Highway. He received major injuries to his head. Fortunately his 18 year old daughter who was with him is recovering at home. Courtney Weatherburne has more.
Scraps of metal litter the western highway near mile 44. On Friday night, Father and daughter Ezekiel Ortega and Lilian Sanabria were on a motorcycle heading to their Cotton Tree home when a vehicle rear-ended them.

"While coming from Baptist high school, she went to night classes and he went to pick her up. Then when they were coming home she said that a vehicle from behind hit them. The vehicle had no lights and then they fly to the highway, she was in the middle of the highway."

"What injuries did she get?"

"She got a cut on her head and pain in her body."
Courtney Weatherburne:
"Has she been released from the hospital?"
Julie Escobar, Step daughter
"Yes, yesterday, she is okay but he is in critical condition. He is fighting for his life."
Courtney Weatherburne:
"I understand he is on life support right now."

"Yes he is bad."
Now the family can only hope that Ortega survives and that the hit and run driver is caught.

Police have not been able to identify the runaway driver nor his vehicle but they hope a piece of the blue bumper that they found at the scene will help them in their search. There were no witnesses. The family says if you have any information relating to the accident and or want to donate blood to Ortega, you can call 627-8912.
