Man Who Killed Cops Says It was Accident, Police Say Murder
posted (January 14, 2019)
Police have charged a man accused of murdering one of their own. Early on Friday morning, 51 year old Corporal Alfonso Guy was killed inside the police barracks - with his own weapon. His only companion at the time, 25 year old waiter Danilo Villatoro Amador has confessed, but said it was an accident - that he was playing with the 9MM pistol when it went off, hitting him once to the chest, a fatal shot.

And while he says it was an accident, police say it's murder. The head of CIB told us more today:

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City
"Police conducted an investigation and shortly detained Amador. An interview of Amador led police to recover a police issued firearm that was issued to the late Corporal Guy and also police detained several persons in regards to this incident. On Saturday evening police formally arrested and charged, Josue Danilo Villatoro Amador, a twenty-five-year-old, Honduran national for the crime of murder."

"Did you manage to establish from him if it was an accident why he ran loff from the scene?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"That is his allegation in regards to the incident. That is what he is alleging. We had to consult with our DPP office and they were the ones that advised us to proceed with the charge."

Reporter
"Did he say if they were playing with the pistol? Were they any games going on?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"They were not playing."

Reporter
"When it comes to Mr. Villatoro and Mr. Guy is there anything to indicate that this may have been a domestic dispute between two partners?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"No. I know that they have known each other and it is not the first time that Mr. Villatoro had been in Mr. Guy's room."

TODAY in court, Villatoro Amador, a naturalized Belizean originally from Honduras, was charged with Guy's murder when he appeared today before Magistrate Tricia Anderson. He was remanded into custody until March 16. Amador worked as a food and beverage vendor at an upscale island Restaurant.
