The Greatness of Graffiti
posted (January 16, 2019)

Graffiti as a form of street art became popular in the US in the 60’s and 70’s. And during its early years it had a very negative connotation: gangs would use it to mark their territory.

And, still, it remains a controversial form of expression: where does street art end and vandalism begin? Regardless of your answer, graffiti remains one of the most vibrant forms of urban art expression. To highlight this NICH, through the museum of Belize, organized a Graffiti fest this past Saturday in Corozal. The event brought together Belizean artists and artists from neighboring Chetumal in a safe space to practice their craft. Here are some clips of the spectacular displays.

The event also saw live art displays from Alex Sanker, Rose Elwell, and Carlos Carillo among others.
