Gun Owner Criticizes License Fees
posted (January 17, 2019)

And while we went to talk to Carr about the tall teak timber, we ended up talking about gun licenses - and those exorbitant increase in licenses fees slapped on last year.

The license fee for personal weapons went up by 300% along with increases for other classes of weapons.  Carr, whose Banana Bank Resort is out behind Valley of Peace, says the good - who need guns for personal protection - are being made to suffer for the outlaws who can access guns cheap through the underworld:

John Carr - Gun Owner
"Because they increased the price by triple, it's a tax. A triple from 75 dollars to 225 dollars, they increased the tax and so it's just too much. Why did they do that? I have no idea, I'm afraid out here, I've been robbed out there, I've been held at gun point for an hour and a half by armed people and I didn't have any guns at that time. I was not armed but let me tell you, I don't mind letting people know that I'm armed, I have a gun and if you criminals or business people, they look at you as they are going to rob you, you say he is a piece of cake. No, if we go out there we might get in trouble, we could get shot, those guys got guns out there, so they don't come here. So why would you try to keep people from owning protection? Why would you try to keep people from owning that? Not everybody wants it but those that want it should have it. Let me tell you, I'm travelling with people and they don't know what's going on, they are happy. A lady told me that yesterday, I'm happy that you have a gun because she felt safer because I had a gun, that's a fact. Then under the hospices that by raising the price we're making Belize safe, please I'm old don't tell me that. "

Carr says he has had to pay major increases for his various licensed weapons.
