Shots Within Earshot Of Police Station
posted (January 18, 2019)

There was a shooting this morning in Belize City.  This one happened on Currassow Street, close to the Raccoon Street Police Headquarters.  We’re told police at the station were rattled when they heard as many as 10 shots ring out.

So far, investigators say it looks like a gang-related execution attempt. Fortunately, the target who the assailant shot at escaped unharmed.

At around 8:30, 20 year-old Kevin Parham was driving his van on Currasow, with passengers. That’s when a gunman rode up from behind on a bicycle and opened fire. Fortunately, no one was injured, but one of the bullets did hit the rear glass of the vehicle.

Here’s what police had to say about it:

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
“This morning, just after 8:30 in the morning, police were called to a shooting scene at Currasow Street. The information we gathered so far is that Mr. Kevin Parham, 20 years-old Belizean, was driving his vehicle on Currasow Street when a male person was seen at the corner of Currasow and Raccoon Street, whereby this person fired several shots towards their direction, causing damages to the rear of the vehicle. Fortunately, Mr. Parham and the other occupants of the vehicle were unhurt. At the scene, police found several expended shells. Also, police is seeking for 1 person that we suspect was involved in this shooting incident.â€￾

Police suspect that this incident is connected to a rivalry taking place between 2 groups living in this same neighborhood.
